Baked Blackfish / Tautog in Black Bean Sauce Easy Recipe.


Blackfish or Tautog are an excellent tasting fish with firm, pure white meat. Its flesh is white, dry, and of a delicate sweet flavor. It may grilled, broiled ot baked. And its firm flesh makes it especially suitable for fish chowder. The lean, firm flesh is excellent when it is skinned and filleted. Due to it's firmness, however, it is important not to overcook tautog as it will tend to be tough, chewy, and lacking in flavor.

Baked Blackfish Recipe - recipe how to bake whole Blackfish / Tautog with Black Bean Sauce, salad onions, fresh ginger, and sesame oil.

Ingredients:

  • 1 whole fresh Tautog / Blackfish, gutted and cleaned (about 1 1/2 lbs)
  • 4 ounces Black Bean Sauce
  • 4 salad onions, sliced diagonally
  • 1 inch piece fresh ginger, peeled and cut into fine julienne strips
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil

Serves/Makes: 3-4

Baked Tautog / Blackfish in Black Bean Sauce Easy Recipe

How to cook Blackfish in Black Bean Sauce:

  • Place whole fish in salt water and let it soak for 30 minutes.
  • Wash well, then rinse and pat dry with paper towels.
  • Make two slashes on each side of the fish.
  • Fold a large sheet of foil in half to give a double thickness and place the whole Blackfish in the centre.
  • Pour the black bean sauce over and around the fish.
  • Sprinkle the onions and ginger over the fish and seal the foil at the top.
  • Preheat oven to 450°F.
  • Place fish on a baking tray and bake for 20 minutes or until thoroughly cooked.
  • Lift the baked whole Tautog carefully on to a large hot plate.
  • Carefully heat the sesame oil in a pan until it begins to smoke, pour over the fish and serve immediately.
